Raccoons
By Robert
Raccoons are very clever animals. Their claws help them get into things that they are not supposed to, like garbage cans.
A raccoon is a very small animal. It can be 24 to 42 inches long. It has brown-gray fur and one tail with rings on it. It has black patches around its eyes that look like a mask. It has claws. Its tail has long fur. Raccoons have white rimmed ears and a pointed snout. I think raccoons look neat, don’t you?
Some things raccoons eat are frogs, crayfish, birds, mice, fruit, nuts, plants, crops, and garbage. Raccoons eat at night. Raccoons are omnivores. Cougars prey on raccoons. Humans kill many of these animals by poaching and cutting down trees.
Raccoons can live in places such as marshes, forests, prairies, cities, and shrubs. They build their homes in tree trunks. They dig out the bottom part of the tree trunk. They make their homes there.
Raccoons are very adaptable animals. They are good climbers, so they can climb up trees to avoid predators. They’re good swimmers also. They catch most of their food in water.
