BALD EAGLE
BY HARSHAL
Have you ever seen a bald eagle? You should be glad if you see one because they are almost extinct. Want to learn more about the bald eagle? Read my report on the bald eagle.
A bald eagle can be male or female. It can be 4 feet to 8 feet. A bald eagle is white, yellow, and brown. It has 7,000 feathers. An eagle has a wingspan of 7 feet. Females can be thirty percent larger than males.
The bald eagle is a carnivore (meat eaters). They mostly eat fish, little snakes, and other birds. Their enemies are humans. Humans hurt eagles because of the pollution of lakes and rivers with pesticides and industrial waste.
The bald eagle lives in a variety of places ,such as the woods and near large lakes and rivers. Bald eagles mostly live near large lakes and rivers because they catch most of their food in the water. Eagles make their nests in trees or the sides of cliffs. One pair uses the same nest every year. An eagle's nest can weigh a ton!
The bald eagle is a very rare bird to see. Do you know why they call it a bald eagle? They call its head bald because if you look at it in a certain way it would look like it is bald. Actually,, its head feathers are white. The bald eagle has been a national symbol of the United Stated since 1782.
