The Young Man and the Sea
By: Rodman Philbrick
The Young Man and the Sea is a great book. The daring Samuel Skiff Beaman meets many hardships as he tries to get his dad off the couch and fishing again after the death of his mom. Like when his family’s ship the “Mary Rose” sinks at the dock and skiff (Samuel) has to raise the ship by himself. Or when Tyler Croft cuts all his lobster traps when Skiff is trying to make money by catching lobsters.
I like Skiff because he’s daring and he never gives up, even though he has to put up with jerks like Tyler Croft and his friends. He never stopped trying to make money so he can fix the Mary Rose and go fishing with his dad again.
Rodman Philbrick is a great author that really captures the setting and all the characters.
The Young Man and the Sea is a great book and I recommend it to anyone who hasn’t read it, young or old!
