Silk Umbrellas

     In the book Silk Umbrellas, I learned that it must have been hard for Noi at her house.  Her sister Ting was getting very sick and she couldn’t do her job any more.  Ting's job was to paint on silk umbrellas and give them to her boss.  Then, Ting would give the money she made to her parents to help them pay for food and some of the bills at their house.

    Later in the book, Noi learns from her sister how to make the paintings on the umbrellas and to make the paintings as real as possible.  Noi paints about every day, and one week she gave them to Ting's boss and he liked them.

    At the end of the book, Ting is better and she and Noi paint umbrellas together and can pay for food and some of the bills at their house.
