Dear Dexter School,
We have identified 6 different powders. They started out to be labeled red, yellow, green, blue, orange and purple. We tested all the powders for base, acid, chemical reaction, physical reaction and starch. Then we found out that green is a starch. And orange and red is a base. And that green and blue are acids. The liquid that we mixed to determine it was a acid was phenol red. And to determine it was an acid was phenolphthalein. And to identify a starch iodine. Then we discovered what they were:
Baking
soda

Salt

Corn starch
Citric acid
Calcium carbonate
Sugar
Then we got the mystery powder that landed on your school yard and tested it for an acid, base, chemical reaction, physical reaction and starch. We fond out it was a starch. It was not an acid or a base and did have a chemical reaction. Then we looked back at our facts and sow that baking soda wasn't a acid but was a base. And that salt was not an acid or an base. And that corn starch was an acid but not an base. Then we found that corn starch was an starch. So we saw the similarity and found out that the mystery powder was baking soda, salt and corn starch.
Here is my explanation for how the powder got in your yard: There was a truck that was driving to the bakery with corn starch, salt and baking soda and the bags that they were in bursts and right when they pasted your yard the fan switched to high and the door flew open and the powders flew on your yard.
I hope this is a help to you. So tell the kids to have a fun recess in a while.
