To the Dexter School,
In the last 7 weeks we have worked hard to figure out what the mystery powder is. We went through a series of tests. We had figured out if it was a base, an acid, or if it was a starch. We found out that the mystery powder was not a base or an acid. We found out what was in the mystery powder. We did it by testing it with iodine. If it turned black it was a starch, which it was. We also tested it with P.T. to see if it was a base, if it turned pink. But it was not. Another test we did was to see if it was an acid. If it turned yellow it was an acid, the mystery powder was not an acid. We also looked under a hand lens and we could see the difference between salt and sugar. Oh, the mystery powder is salt, corn starch and baking soda. We had to figure that out with the mystery powder you sent us.
I think that the powder came from the Best Buy Bakery. I think that because the bakery uses salt, baking soda and corn starch. Those powders were in the mystery powder. Or a delivery truck came by and some cartons of salt, corn starch and baking soda broke and the powders mixed and floated to the playground. This could have happened also, bags of salt, corn starch and baking soda cut open and floated to the playground.
Here are some places it could of come from: The Best Buy Bakery, or it could have come from the grocery store. Also it could have come from the fire extinguishing plant.
I hope you can use this information.
