Book by Gloria Whelan - Chu Ju’s House

In the book, Chu Ju’s House, by Gloria Whelan, Chu Ju was very brave because she wanted to save her sister from adoption.  Chu Ju is a girl who lives with her family in China.  In China you’re only allowed to have one daughter, but you’re allowed to have as many boys as you want!

One example that Chu Ju is brave is when the adoption director came and was going to take Chu Ju’s sister away, but Chu Ju pinched her sister so that she would cry. [Because the orphanage-people don’t like to take crying babies]

Another example when Chu Ju is brave is when she decided to run away during the night so that her parents could try again for a boy and they could keep her sister.

In conclusion, I think that Chu Ju was very brave to save her sister from the adoption director!!
