Response to Literature: Cabin on Trouble Creek

 By Jean Van Leeuwen

I learned in the book Cabin on Trouble Creek that Daniel, the older boy, would do anything for his family.  His family is moving from Pennsylvania to the country woods.  His father, his brother and he went into the woods to build a house there so that when the rest of the family, came they would have shelter Daniel is in charge of his brother, Will, while his dad goes to get the rest of the family.  He had to keep himself and his brother safe and healthy.

A time Daniel took care of Will was when it was winter and they were on the frozen creek Will saw a fish through the ice and pushed his hand through the ice to grab it.  He was successful, but he got himself soaked!  Daniel took Will home and gave him the medicine they had and wrapped him up in all the cloth they had.  He made sure that he didn’t freeze to death.  Will is lucky to have such a caring older brother.

When it was warmer out, Daniel took Will to fish in the creek.  He caught a large fish On their way back to their cabin, Daniel and Will heard a noise. They turned around and there was a big brown bear!  They started running, but the bear grabbed Will!   Instead of Daniel just running away, leaving Will to danger, Daniel fought the bear!  He saved Will from danger, but the bear grabbed Daniel instead!  Will saved Daniel, like Daniel did for him.  They took care of each other so they would survive.

In conclusion, I learned that family is important.  Daniel showed me that family is important - they take care of you, like Daniel did for Will.
