A
Response to Literature

The book, The Rope Trick, by Lloyd Alexander is a book everyone
should read. I love it because it
has a good sense of adventure and it never has a low moment.
It is mostly about Lidi and her journey to find Ferramondo, a wonderful
magician. She wants him to teach
her the Rope Trick. In this
response, I will focus on how she uses her magic tricks to find friends.
The story starts when Lidi is in the care of a man named Jericho. He
had taken care of Lidi ever since she was little.
He had taught her all the magic tricks he knew.
He became like a father to her. Jericho
bought all the stuff for Lidi to perform, and traveled with her to help her
with the shows.
After Lidi made an enemy with Zaccovelli, she met someone else who
became a friend. Her name was
Daniella. She came along Lidi’s
journey, and became the “added attraction.”
As they went further along, they became better friends.
For example, Lidi was so afraid for Daniella when there was a fire, and
she disappeared.
Another soon to be friend was Julian.
Jericho found him under their wagon.
He asked not to be paid, but to be able to stay with them.
He helped Lidi with her shows, by being an assistant.
Later in the story she meets Pompardo and his dancing pigs.
Immediately they became friends. He
asked her to perform along with himself, and some others in a show.
When Lidi thinks she is hot on Ferramondo’s trail, she meets a woman
named Antonia. As the five
talked, the puzzle came together. When
they parted, they definitely were closer together.
As you can see, Lidi made lots of friends, but also made some foes.
Every friend she met enjoyed her magic tricks, as did Lidi.
I hope you read The Rope Trick because it is a story everyone
will always remember.
