Holes

By Louis Sachar

This is a book about a boy named Stanley. His family is cursed from his dirty rotten pig stealing great great grandfather, Eliot Yelnats.

Stanley always seems to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. Here are some examples.

Stanley Yelnats  has been sent to Camp Green Lake, a camp for bad boys. When Stanley is at camp, he meets some friends, X-ray, Armpit, Squid, Zig Zag, Magnet, and Zero. But they aren’t too nice to him.  Zero doesn’t even talk.

Every day, Stanley has to dig five feet deep and five feet in diameter.

Stanley thought the first hole was the hardest but X ray said the second was the hardest.

Stanley thought they were digging holes to find something but the camp counselor said they were digging to build some character. Stanley did not believe him. He was sure they were digging to find something.

At Camp Green Lake you have to avoid rattlesnakes and yellow spotted lizards. Being bitten by a rattlesnake isn’t the worst thing that could happen to you. You won’t die but you don’t want to be bitten by a yellow spotted lizard.  That is the worst thing that could happen to you.  You will die a slow and painful death always.

After you dig your hole, which takes Stanley a few hours, you can take a shower or you can go to the rec room to play pool, wrestle, watch TV, lift weights, or just relax.

When its time to go to sleep, Stanley can never get any sleep because Armpit is snoring and Squid is talking in his sleep.  Stanley has to stay at Camp Green Lake for 18 months. How would you like it if you were at Camp Green Lake?

As you can see, Stanley is always in the wrong place in the wrong time.
