The House Of The Scorpion

A response to literature By: Elliott S-J

This book is about a clone named Matt who tries to live a normal life but he is shunned by everyone except Celia, his guardian, Tam Lin, his bodyguard and friend, El Patron, who Matt is a clone of, and Maria, his best friend. In this response to literature, I will focus on how hard life was for Matt.

As a baby, Matt spent most of his time in Celia’s house in the poppy fields because Celia wouldn’t let him outside. She was afraid he might be discovered. That was until he met Maria, Stephen and Emilia, who brought him to El Patrón’s mansion. That wasn’t very good for him, because when he was found, he was imprisoned for a long, long time.

When El Patrón found him, Matt was allowed to live in the mansion. He had no friends because Maria had left. A few years later he was accused of poisoning Furball, Maria’s dog, so she hated him for a while.

A few years later he was nearly murdered by El Patrón because he needed a heart transplant. As you can see, Matt has a very hard life. But he also has a very interesting life.

The only way to know his life is to read THE HOUSE OF THE SCORPION By: Nancy Farmer.
