Dave at Night
Gail Carson Levine

( a book review by Meghan)

Imagine being an orphan in the 1920s during the Great Depression, or having your own aunt give you up because she didn’t have a lot of money to take care of you.
Well, that is what happens to an eleven year old boy named
Dave Caraos.
The people at the orphanage where he was sent would treat the boys like slaves. They would have to be really good or else they would be hit with a yardstick. Dave finds a way to escape the orphanage at night and meets a man named Solly.
Dave meets a lot of new people. Dave gets hit
by the superintendent of the orphanage because he is trying to get the carvings that his brother gave him. Dave gets hit so hard that he has to get 4 stitches on his leg. One of Dave’s friends named Eli had a bad cold. They took him somewhere
else. The teachers said that they were taking him some place
warmer, but Eli never came back.
I think that Dave at Night is a really good book.I t’s the kind of book that you never what to put down.
