ZOOMAN SAM
By Lois Lowry
A Book Review By Catherine

How would you like to be a zoo keeper when you grow up? Well Sam chose to be a zoo keeper at his school for a special day called Future Job Day.

Sam is up in his room trying to figure out what to wear for Future Job Day at his school. He wants to be a zoo keeper, but he doesn’t have a zoo keeper outfit. When it is time for dinner, he comes down crying. He tells his mom. His mom thinks a minute. Then Sam gets a book and shows a picture of a zoo keeper. They decided to use his gray pajamas. His older sister knows where to get the hats. Sam couldn’t wait!

The next day, Sam got up and got dressed by himself in his zoo keeper suit. His sister got hats from her friend’s dad. The hats had sports team names like Cubs, Tigers, and Lions. He wore the cap that had the animal name on it that he is describing. When it was Sam’s turn to tell about his job, he ran out of time to share the rest of his hats so his teacher said that each day he could wear his zoo keeper suit and share a couple of hats.

Sam’s zoo keeper suit had a stain on it and he was getting sick of wearing hats. Sam wanted to wear different clothes and to be Sam again. Later on, Sam remembered how he sounded out the words Zooman Sam on the gray coveralls. Sam was glad he learned so many new words and that he got to be a Zooman!
