OUR ONLY MAY AMELIA

This story is about a girl who lives with seven brothers. I will tell how hard of a life she had. In my book review, I will focus on May Amelia.

May Amelia’s mom is having a baby. She is so excited when it turns out to be a girl. she takes care of the baby and feeds it because her mom doesn’t feel very well. The sad part is when the baby dies on Christmas morning.

When I read that the baby died, it was very sad because May Amelia’s wish for her birthday was that her mom would have a baby girl. She did but now it was dead!

May Amelia’s dad doesn’t really like her because she is a girl. Sometimes, when May Amelia is running around, her father yells at her and tells her to come inside. On May Amelia’s birthday, her father was mean to her. Her brother, Wilbert , told her that he hoped the baby would be a boy and that he couldn’t stand to have another May Amelia.

When I read that, I felt bad because she was being treated differently just because she is a girl by her dad. I bet May Amelia was frustrated and mad. That would be hard!

May Amelia has a friend named Emma Saari. She is glad to have a friend. Her dad said that she has been playing too much with boys and that she is starting to think like one.

When I read this book, it was very touching because it told of the experience of hard work in the olden days. They had to mend and do other chores. It also told how difficult it was for a girl to be treated with respect.
