The Civil War was fought between the Union and the Confederate armies, also known as the North and the South.

The South was fighting for freedom from the Union.

The North was fighting for a stronger Union, and slavery being abolished.

The South claimed that they couldn't survive without slavery.

The war was fought from 1961 to 1965. In the war over 600,000 soldiers were killed.

Plus, half of the South lay in ruins. The Union did indeed get the South to join the Union.

And, slavery was abolished when Abe Lincoln made the Emancipation Proclamation.

Many battles took place, and many people became war heroes in the war.
