Green Mountain Hero

Reading Response by Ralph

People who like adventure books should read this book. Get ready for a big history lesson. This book takes place during the Revolutionary War. It is filled with facts as well as fiction because it is a historical fiction book

I felt in the first chapters that the Stories were in danger from Zeke Jenny. At the beginning, they think he set their barn on fire. Their neighbors helped put the fire out. A lot of living creatures died in this book like Amos, eight wolves and a bear.

I felt good after I read this book and I loved it. A lot of chapters helped me to make a picture in my mind. When the fire took place, the writing helped me make a picture in my mind of what it looked like when there was a fire back then and what they had to do to put out a fire. Also when they came in to the town of Bennington, Vermont. It was a trading town. It made a picture in my head of the olden days and the life of a trading town.

Another example is the wolf attack scene. They had to stay near the fire so the wolves wouldn’t attack them. Another time was when Amos was cutting a tree. In the scene it falls down and kills him. So Solomon had to go back and get his family. Also, when Zeke Jenny and the Indians burn down the log house and all that remains are the shelves. That was horrible!

This book was great. It is based on a true story. The author told a good story, the best I have ever read about the time of the Revolutionary War..
