Green Mountain Hero
By Edgar N. Jackson
Reading Response By Brenna
This book is great! Anybody who likes early Vermont history would like this book. They would like it because it is about early Vermont history. It takes place in 1775.
The part that helped me form my opinion was when Ann, one of the women, joins the Green Mountain Boys. She said, "See if I am the first one to desert my post." That is one of my favorite parts because she was brave enough to take on a big challenge.
Another thing that happened was when Amos died. This part is sad because a tree fell on Amos. He didn’t survive. Solomon, the oldest boy, runs to their neighbor’s house. He gets there and they help him. Another thing that happened was when Zeke Jenny, an old enemy, comes and sets fire to their house. Luckily they went to the cave in time. They lose almost everything in the house. Ann says, "We cry for the things that we can’t do anything about, we should save our tears and rebuild."
Those are just some of the things that happen in this adventurous book. That’s why I think it is great. The Story family is very interesting. All of these events happen to just one family. As I said, if you like early Vermont history then you will like this book.
