Green
Mountain HeroAuthor: Edgar .N. Jackson

Anybody who likes history should read Green Mountain Hero. This book goes back to the 1700’s when the Revolutionary War was on. The main character is a thirteen year old boy named Solomon Story. When Solomon’s barn burns up, Solomon suspects that a Tory named Zeke Jenny burned it up. I suspected Zeke burned up the barn too. Amos, Solomon’s father, decided it
was time to leave Connecticut and move to the New Hampshire Grants (Vermont). But Solomon’s mother, Ann, and his two brother’s, Ephraim and Samuel, and two sisters, Susanna and Hannah stayed home.It was fun to read one chapter after the next one and next one. One of my favorite parts was when Solomon got tricked by trading their horse for a canoe without paddles. I could picture them very well, the drunk trader getting angry because he was getting laughed at. It really helped me laugh.
A sad part of Green Mountain Hero is when Solomon and Amos are cutting down a tree and Solomon yells, "Look out!" It was too late. Solomon jumped away but Amos was not quick enough. Crash! There Amos lay. Solomon cried out, "Father, Father!" There was no response. If I were Solomon I would cry a lot because I don’t ever want to lose my dad.
So, Green Mountain Hero is a good book. It talks about what it’s like to live in the Revolutionary War and how hard life was. I like this book because when I read it, it makes me feel like I live in the 1700’s. Edgar Jackson talks about the life the Story family had and what danger was ahead of them at that time in history.
