Map Turtle

By Kate

Have you ever seen a map turtle? The map turtle got its name because it looks like it has a map on its shell. A map turtle likes to sun itself on rocks. A map turtle is a fresh water turtle. Fresh water turtles are cold-blooded which means their body temperature changes with their surroundings. We took this picture at Button Bay, but I saw a map turtle over the weekend. I was waiting to get on a train , the Champlain Flyer, when I spotted a map turtle. It was in a cage with 2 eastern spiny turtles. It was cool to see one up close. I was glad that I knew what kind of turtle it was. I first learned about this type of turtle from Laura Holliwell, the naturalist at Button Bay.
