These fossils were formed millions of years ago. They were formed when a leaf or snail was buried with mud and then the mud dried and formed a fossil. The fossils that are mostly found in this area are late and early trilobites, clams, shark teeth, ferns, other plants, snails and coral.
Different fossils require different collecting techniques. They are mostly found in sedimentary rocks. The mud that fossils are buried in comes from the bottoms of rivers, lakes, swamps, and oceans. Some fossils can be bones, rock or even frozen bodies!
Scientists believe that the oldest fossils lived 3 ½ billion years ago!
