Mrs. Gurwicz’s Class at Button Bay

Hi. My name is David. I just moved here from Hagerstown, Maryland. I am now at Orchard School in South Burlington, Vermont. I am in Mrs. Gurwicz’s fourth grade class. I am planning on going with the class for the next field trip. From looking at this picture, I think that it will be fun to learn about Vermont by visiting different places in the area.

For this field trip, my classmates learned a lot by discovering and exploring at Button Bay State Park. They got to see Camel’s Hump from far away. They saw fossils in the rocks that were in the woods. Kids saw the Adirondack Mountains when they looked across the lake. The kids also saw a foxhole not far from the path in the woods. The class found a deer track through the grass. Before the class left Button Bay, they looked for clay buttons along the beach. Everyone found at least one button at Ms. Brady’s camp down the road from the park.

The class will be going on many more field trips. We are going to Mazza’s Pumpkin Patch this month. We will be going to get pumpkins to carve. We are going there to learn more about Vermont areas and gardening. Another trip coming up is the trip to Rock of Ages in Barre, Vermont. We will be learning about how granite rock is collected from the quarry. We will also visit the Ethan and Fannie Allen Homestead to learn more about Vermont history. I think I can learn a lot about history, geology, botany, and geography by going on field trips with my class!
