Did you ever wonder if a rabbit could jump twelve feet high?  In this report you will learn about what rabbits look like, what they eat, their defenses, how they move, how they are raised, and other interesting facts.  Rabbits are interesting animals.

Cotton-tail rabbits have brown or grayish brown fur.  They have tall, pointy ears.  They have large eyes.  They have good, strong teeth.  Their legs are strong.  Their tails are round and soft.

They are herbivores.  This means that they are vegetarians.  They eat leaves, apples, and other plants.

Cotton-tail rabbits can camouflage themselves.  Their fur blends in with nature.  You can be looking in the woods or at the grass and not notice them.  This helps them to defend themselves.

Rabbits hop so fast you can not catch them.  They also run fast.  They can run from predators.  This saves them.

Their babies are born in litters, small groups at one time.  Five or six are born in a litter.  There can be three or four litters a year.  That is a lot of rabbits.  There are less than there uses to be.  Why?  People are moving into their habitats.  They like farmlands, pastures, old fields, shrubby areas, open woods, swamps and marshes, backyards that are grassy or have shrubs.  Once I saw some rabbits living under my shed in my backyard.

When I see rabbits in my backyard, I make sure to be really quiet.  I don’t want to scare them.  I like to watch them running fast every time I see them.  I have seen how their backs are round.  I like their ears.  They have an interesting shape.
