Did you know that when most people think of foxes, they picture red foxes in their mind?  In this report you will learn about the appearance of red foxes, what they eat, how they defend themselves and their prey, how they move, how the animal is raised, their habitat, and other interesting facts.

The red fox can be silver, gray, orange- red, and brownish.  They grow to be about a foot tall and three feet long from the tip of its tail to the end of its nose.

What does a red fox eat?  The red fox eats meat.  It is a carnivore.  It eats eggs, mice, rats, rabbits, even beaver!  It will eat insect too.  No plants though!

How does it defend itself?  It defends itself by running.  A fox runs away from predators.  It moves very fast.  They run because that is their offense.  Coyotes and cougars hunt red foxes.

How is the animal raised?  Foxes start their life when they are born, at three inches tall.  They grow to be about one foot tall.  They grow to be between five and fifteen pounds.  They drink their mother’s milk.  The foxes live in dens.  They lick each other to keep themselves clean.  Mother foxes may give birth to live babies, ten at a time!

Other interesting facts are that red foxes may live in many different places like South America, Canada, Asia, and Europe.  They live in so many different parts of the world!

I found it most interesting how small the red fox really is in the wild.  I was surprised by how much it weighs.  It surprised me that the red fox is not very heavy.  The red fox is a carnivore!  I always thought that it didn’t eat meat until I researched it!
