Yellowstone

Yellowstone

Yellowstone National Park got its name from the yellow stones found there.  The yellow stones are called rhyolite.  Yellowstone is located in Wyoming.  Yellowstone is the largest park outside of Alaska.  Yellowstone has its own Grand Canyon, a gorge that was once a river.
Yellowstone has over 10,000 geysers and hot springs.  Every 50 to 80 minutes Old Faithful erupts.  Old Faithful is a Yellowstone geyser.  The geysers blast hot water as high as 200 feet into the air.  More than half of the geysers in the world are within the borders of Yellowstone.  Geysers come from the Icelandic word for “gusher”.
In Yellowstone you can watch bison, elk, bears, and other animals.  On March 1, 1872 President Grant made Yellowstone the world's first national park.  Yellowstone is 2,165,749 square miles.

Park rangers take good care of the animals.  They also protect and preserve the habitat and its animals.  Park rangers rule the forest.  They help with your questions.  Also, they drive vehicles and animals such as helicopters, horses, and other equipment.  Park rangers enforce the rules so everything and everyone stays safe.  Park rangers are responsible for the forest.
