At Orchard School, seven classes have been participating in SLIMY's "Eat the Rainbow" program.  For five weeks, classes have been learning about the importance of eating colorful fruits and vegetables by eating different colored fruits and vegetables each week.  Students have matched their clothing to the food that they are eating for each special week.

Fruits and vegetables can be grouped into five color groups and each color group helps our bodies in different ways:  We need:
a)  Red fruits and vegetables for - heart health, memory
b)  Orange/Yellow - heart health, healthy immune system and healthy vision
c)  White - heart health
d)  Green - strong bones and teeth and healthy vision
e)  Blue/Purple - memory

The overflowing basket of fruits and vegetables was created in art class by students in grades 2 and 3.

The large fruits and vegetables on the left below were created by kindergarten and first graders.

Now, take a look at the students through the five weeks of "Eat the Rainbow," first red week, then orange, yellow, green and blue.

So remember to eat 5-9 servings of colorful fruits and vegetables every day!
