Zeus
by Chris

Yahsu.  That's hello in Greek.  I will teach you about Zeus, a Greek god.

I, Zeus, am the king of Olympians and god of all gods.  I was born in a cave on Mount Ida on Crete.  I'm mostly the god of the sky.  I'm also known as the lord of the sky, cloud gatherer, and the rain god.

My wife is Hera.  She is also my sister.  I had too many affairs with Aegina, Alchenen, Calliope, Cassiopeia, Demeter, Dione, Europa, Lo, Leda, Leto, Mnemosyne, Niobe, and Semele.  My weakness is trouble with affairs.  I had six kids.

My mom is Rhea and my dad is Cronus who tried to eat my brothers, my sisters and me.  My mom saved me by giving Cronus a rock to eat instead of me.  Rhea had me raised by nymphs.

Here is a story from my life:

Once upon a time, I, Zeus, was holding lightening bolts while looking down on the Greek people.  I was watching the people of Earth, hoping that the mortals were behaving well.  Hera, my wife, was angry with me because she found out that I had been unfaithful again.  She hit me, taking me by surprise.  I accidentally dropped a lightning bolt which hit Persephone, by brother's wife, and my very own daughter.  I killed her.  The sadness I felt was horrible.  When my brother, Hades, heard his wife had died, he became so angry that his anger caused magma to come out of the ground!  This hot, deadly magma landed on Cronus, our father, and killed him instantly.

Hades wasn't sad that Cronus was dead because Cronus always thought Hades was his worst son and he treated Hades badly.  I wasn't that sad either because Cronus had once tried to kill me so that he could become ruler of the world.

But Hades was very upset that Persepone was dead.  When I told Hades how Persephone died, and that I had killed her, he was angry with me but decided that he didn't want to hurt any more people, gods or mortals.  He forgave me and we all lived happily ever after.
