Plymouth Colony
Project Criteria |
Plymouth Colony, America's first permanent Puritan settlement, was
established by English Separatist Puritans in December 1620. The Pilgrims
left England to seek religious freedom, or simply to find a better life.
After a period in Holland, they set sail from Plymouth, England, on Sept. 16,
1620, aboard the Mayflower, its 102 passengers spending 65 days at sea.
- Read "First Conflicts and Sharp Beginnings" in Cobblestone,
November 1989 and answer the following questions.
- What was the illegal and dangerous act William Bradford, William Brewster
and the Scrooby Separatist were committing?
- Who controlled the Church of England?
- When the Separatist left England, where did they go?
- What is the game Stool-Ball? Pages 34 & 35 in Cobblestone,
November 1989
- Copy the diagram of the cross section of the Mayflower into your Word
document.

- Play the game "Journey to the New World" with your
partner. Have fun!
- Using the world map given to your group, color England blue, Holland
(Netherlands) red, and Massachusetts green. Please make a key for your map.
Now draw arrows showing the route the Pilgrims took to the new world once
leaving England
- Using the book, On the Mayflower, by Kate Waters (page 37),
label the diagram of the Mayflower with her sails.
- Print out the map of Massachusetts and circle the Plymouth colony in red.

America, by Harold L. Peterson explain the steps Miles Standish had
the Pilgrims uses in building the fort. Then answer the following questions.

Once printed, glue the mini biography on to a 5" by 8" note card
