For this activity, you will need to open Internet Explorer.  Then follow this path:  Grade Level Internet Activities > Third Grade > Simple Machines.  You will be using several links on this page.  First, click on  and answer the following:

 

¨ What is a simple machine?

¨ Now go to “Simple Machines from ” and find the definition of each simple machine.  Then draw its picture.

¨ At the bottom of the Simple Machines page, please click on “Three Classes of Levers” and answer the following:

                  

In the first class of levers, fill in the blanks using effort and load.

In the second class of levers, fill in the blanks using effort and load.

 

The _____________ and _____________ are on the same side of the fulcrum but the _____________ is farther out.

 

In the third class of levers, fill in the blanks using effort and load.

¨ Now, click on “Simple Machines Learning Sites.”  At this site, you need to click on each of the simple machines and find where it says, “Examples of (a simple machine) and list three examples of each type of simple machine.
