Dear
Parents,
It’s
A Girl!
Our
school nurse, Kara Cassani, gave birth earlier this week.
Kara and her husband, John Oliver, are the proud parents of a daughter.
Kady Cassani Oliver arrived Tuesday, September 26 at 3:47PM, weighing
8lbs. 4oz.
“Kids
CAN Help” campaign a success!
Our
kindergarten and first graders donated well over one hundred pounds of food that
will be donated to the Chittenden Emergency Food Shelf.
Thank you students, parents, and teachers for your generosity.
Come
to the Harvest Festival on Thursday Evening
Our
bi-annual Harvest Festival is this coming Thursday, October 5th beginning
at 5:30PM. We are hoping for clear
skies, as most of the activities will be outside. Bring your appetite and your singing voice for a fun evening
with other Orchard families.
Our
First Fire Drill
We
held our first fire drill this week. Everyone
followed the simple rules of walking quietly to the designated exit and staying
with the adult in charge. The first
few drills are announced so everyone can become familiar with the alarm system
and the procedures that need to be followed.
We were able to evacuate the building and check for an all clear in about
3 minutes. On a related note,
firefighters from the South Burlington Fire Department will be at school on
October 11th to teach students fire prevention and safety tips.
7th
Annual Many Milers Kick Off for Grades 3 – 5
Students
in grades 3 – 5 will gather in the cafeteria on Monday, October 9th
at 1:30PM to kick off this year’s Many Milers’ Youth Running Program.
Many Milers’ is a youth fitness and running program sponsored by Run
Vermont, the parent organization for the Vermont City Marathon.
This will be Many Milers’ 7th year at Orchard School.
It began with one classroom in 2000, and has grown to a dozen classrooms.
The Orchard Many Milers program is organized to include all 3rd
through 5th graders.
Children in this age range seem to be developmentally ready to set and
achieve goals and to accept the challenge of tracking their mileage.
Watch for the registration information that your child will be bringing
home. We
need one parent for each of the classrooms that have students participating in
the program. Our
parent coordinator for the Many Milers’ program is Kerry Farrell.
If you are interested in helping, you can contact Kerry at 860-4982 or
email kkfrn@adelphia.net.
If you have a child in a lower grade who wants to join the program you
can sign up at www.runvermont.org/youth,
or pick up a registration form in the Orchard lobby and send it directly to
RunVermont.
Have
A Good Weekend!
